After months of fake news and rumour, Niantic, the makers of Pokémon GO, are creating a Harry Potter game for their AR platform, announcing Harry Potter: Wizard Unite in an official blog post.
The idea just makes too much sense in terms of gameplay, financials, fanbase and tech. But the official announcement comes after the debunking of multiple rumours of a Harry Potter GO game including a well publicised article based on quotes from a fake source.
Meanwhile, from the tech side of things, Pokémon Go introduced AR gaming to the mainstream, but it was only barely AR. Here's hoping the new game leverages the new possibilities provided by new AR frameworks such as ARKit and ARCore or even take some risks with voice, facial, and gesture recognition.
Expecto Patronum IRL
