Industry 4.0 is resulting in a massive step change in the way we work and it has only just become.
However this is not new to us as technology has changed the way we work for generation after generation but the big difference is the rate of change that is occurring right now.
The big 'Don' is selling the future of a safe workforce in the U.S. and jobs not heading offshore, however what is really going to 'make america great again' is the adoption of automation, bringing in technology where the human factor is hurting their growth.
The real question is if all of these jobs aren't safe what do the next generation look to become, what is the go to job of the future?
Maybe we should ask Elon....
On the face of it, Industry 4.0 provides companies with the means to automate huge swaths of business processes, thus eliminating the need for human workers in places before understood as safe from automation. These include, but are not limited to, website design, purchasing, medicine, fulfilment, and, not surprisingly, accounting. And, while Donald Trump likes to suggest that it is foreign workers that will be taking our jobs, it is much more likely that it is the silent creep of automation that will be doing the heavy lifting. For, in many cases, the economic incentives of automation outweigh the cost of human labour, near-total automation is understood as inevitable.
