The race is on to create synthetic spider silk

Between Bolt Threads USA and Spiber Japan, the textile industry is on the verge of a revolution. Both companies have begun to ramp up their production of artificial spider silk, and use completely different methods to create their product. This is a great example of how a race to the top doesn't mean taking the same path. Spiber has already announced a strategic partnership with North Face, while Bolt Threads has aligned themselves with Patagonia.

If the spider webs that shoot from Spider Man’s wrists were real spider silk, the superhero could genuinely have pulled the runaway train to a halt in that dramatic scene in Spider Man 2.
